Exemption
Exemption from the Primary Examination may be granted to some candidates. Please refer to the Regulations for Examination and Fellowship for specific details (General Stream candidates refer to Clause 15, Special Field Stream candidates refer to Clause 36).
For the General Stream, exemption may be allowed to those candidates who have;
a) successfully completed the Primary Examination for Fellowship or Part A of the MFDS Examination of
The Royal College of Surgeons of England, or The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, or The Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland
b) successfully completed Part I Examination for Fellowship in the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
c) successfully completed a two year, full time postgraduate degree in Dentistry (i.e. Masters or PhD)
Applications for Exemption
Applications must be made in writing to the Registrar, by completing an "Application for Exemption" form.
Exemption Application Form
The Application for Exemption Form must be accompanied by sufficient evidence of the above, including certified copies of certificates, academic transcripts, letters etc. Those candidates seeking exemption for a two year, full time post graduate degree in dentistry MUST supply evidence stating the Course was indeed two years, full time.
Such evidence may take the form of
- a letter from the university stating the duration and full time nature of the Course
- information from a university handbook stating the duration and full time nature of the degree (photocopies must be certified)
- a website address where information regarding the duration and full time nature of the Course may be found (a printout from the website should be included with your application)
Please note, if your application does not provide some form of evidence as listed above, College staff will need to contact you, request the information and then receive it adding significant time to the processing of your application.
It is advisable that overseas candidates provide an email address on the application form, reducing the time it may take to contact you.
The Application Process
Your application will be processed by the Registrar and then forwarded to the Censor in Chief. The Censor in Chief will then send a letter regarding your exemption status. The application process can take up to three weeks (sometimes longer depending on postal fences in some overseas locations).
The exemption fee is payable on application.
For candidates wishing to enrol in the Final Examination, your exemption application MUST be received by 30 September, to register for the following January Examination.
