Emeritus Professor Kenneth J G Sutherland AM examined in General Dentistry in the General Stream Final Examination for 14 years. He had a most distinguished career in Dentistry, being recognised both nationally and internationally as an academic and as a dental administrator. He was Professor of Dental Science (later Dentistry) University of Western Australia for 29 years and coincidently Dean of the Faculty extending over a period of 22 years. He was a member of the Dental Board of Western Australia for 33 years and President of the Board for almost half that time.
In proposing to endow this Prize, Professor Sutherland said that, 'Although the College is basically an examining body, is does provide an important stimulus with a prestigious goal ahead for a dentist to advance his or her knowledge through reading and numerous other avenues and to apply this to everyday practise and to evaluate results. In this way, the dentist is not only providing the community with a better service, but at the same time participating in the important activity of continuing education'.
The Prize itself consists of the College Medal and a monetary amount, presently A$500.
