Orientation Course

Each year the College runs an Orientation Course to assist candidates who plan to sit for the Primary Examination.

The Course is usually held each July, at Moore Theological College (adjacent to Sydney University).  Please refer to the College Calendar of events for exact dates.  The Women's College of the University of Sydney provides accommodation for candidates and interstate lecturers for the duration of the Course.

The aim of the Orientation Course is to provide candidates with a series of lectures, which indicate the main direction of the developments in the basic sciences.  Over 60 lectures are presented, the lecturers normally being the examiners at the ensuing Primary Examination.

Lectures will be presented on;

Anatomy
Histology
Physiology
Biochemistry
Pathology
Microbiology
Haematology
Pharmacology

In addition to lectures on the subjects of the Examination, examiners present sessions on exam preparation and a psychologist presents a session on learning skills.  Lecturers/Examiners are also available during the Course to answer candidates' queries regarding the lecture notes or the content of the Examination.

Candidates who plan to attend the Orientation Course will find it beneficial to follow an organised course of reading beforehand.  Suitable texts can be found in the Reading List, which is published with the Guide to Study.  A CDROM of lecture notes is posted to all candidates registered for the Course, four weeks prior to its commencement.

Although it is not imperative that candidates attend the Course in the July prior to the December Examination, candidates should be aware that lecture notes and the Guide for Study and Reading List are often updated on an annual basis.  It would be wise for candidates to ensure they are organizing their study according to the most recent edition of these resources.
