Final Exam Workshop
In 2005 the College held its inaugural 2 day workshop designed to assist candidates in their preparation for the Final Examination for Fellowship of the RACDS. In response to feedback and the nature of the examination, this workshop replaced the previous week long, lecture orientated program with a much more interactive approach to learning.
The workshop is aimed at young practitioners who are pursuing Fellowship in order to enhance their professional development. The emphasis of the workshop is on diagnosis, analysis and treatment planning.
With a balance of plenary (lecture style) and small group sessions facilitated by the College Registrars, Final Examiners and Practitioners, participants have the opportunity to discuss treatment planning and problem solving approaches with regards to General Dentistry.
The workshop includes sessions on report writing, case presentation and mock Viva exams. There is opportunity for critical peer review in a dynamic and supportive learning environment.
Feedback from the past two Workshops were very positive, with participants reporting that they had valuable input into their preparation for the Final Examination. Participants considered that the workshop should be held much earlier in the year in order for them to be able to capitalise on the experience gained.
Therefore, in 2008, the Final Exam Workshop will be held on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June, in the Education Block at Westmead Hospital in Sydney. Please see College Calendar for dates.
Accommodation for interstate and overseas candidates is provided by Wesley Lodge. Wesley Lodge is across the road from the main entrance of the hospital, making it very convenient for candidates attending the Course.

Web Based Education Program
The College will once again run the education initiative which proved to be very successful in helping candidates prepare for the Viva Voce in the Final Examination.
At specified intervals, images and accompanying questions will be posted on the website. Registered candidates will view the images, answer the corresponding questions, and examiners mark candidates’ responses and provide individual feedback.
The program consists of two segments; it is proposed to run the first from July to August, with Examiner feedback provided in September and the second from September to October, with the feedback in November.
Questions and accompanying slides are structured in such a way that candidate’s learn a ‘process’, which can be transferred to the viva voce situation. Feedback from participants in last year’s program was very positive, and candidates considered that the process was very useful in preparation for the Final Examination.
Registrations close on 31 July 2008 and the fee is AUD 318 for O/S and AUD418 for Australian residents.
